Senate Approves Measures Sponsored by Connors, Rumpf & Gove Supporting Veterans and Emergency Service Volunteers

The State Senate passed two legislative initiatives sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove that, separately, are aimed at assisting veterans and emergency service volunteer personnel.

The first measure, S-1024/A-515, would expand “Operation Recognition,” a program which offered state-endorsed high school diplomas to veterans who left high school prior to graduation to serve in the military, to include veterans of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Alert State to Objections Raised By Local EMS Squads on Pending Legislation

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove have alerted the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHHS) about the deep concerns raised by the local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) volunteer personnel regarding pending legislation (S-818/A-2095) that is feared will force certain volunteer EMT squads to disband and lead to a spike in property taxes.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Monitoring Activity on Common Interest Community Legislation

Following a recent Committee hearing during which testimony was taken on homeowner association issues, Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove are continuing to monitor for any developments regarding Common Interest Community legislation.

On May 6, the Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee received testimony from invited guests and the public on homeowner association issues in New Jersey. No legislation was considered during the hearing. The 9th District Delegation alerted senior communities in the District in advance of the hearing as part of their continuing constituent outreach efforts on the Common Interest Community issue.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Call for State Meeting to Discuss Pedestrian Law Issues on LBI

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove today sent a letter to the offices of the State Attorney General and the Department of Transportation (DOT) requesting a meeting for the purpose of discussing serious public safety concerns raised by the municipalities on Long Beach Island regarding a recently enacted pedestrian safety law.

Connors, Rumpf and Gove have recommended that the meeting include the Long Beach Island mayoral delegation as well as representatives from Ocean County.

Committee Advances Connors, Rumpf & Gove Bill to Protect Tuition Program Established for Emergency Volunteer Personnel

The Senate Education Committee today advanced legislation (S-1057) sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove that would clarify the original intent of the Legislature by closing a loophole used by certain county colleges to deny volunteer emergency personnel tuition assistance under the state’s volunteer tuition credit program.

The volunteer tuition credit program provides a tuition credit benefit of up to $2,400 over four years to active members of a volunteer fire company, volunteer first aid or rescue squad or association and the dependent children and spouse of such members.

9th District Delegation, LBI Mayors Meet with DEP Commissioner to Discuss Local and State Issues

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove joined with each of the six mayors from Long Beach Island at Surf City Borough Hall in a meeting with Commissioner Bob Martin of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), within the Christie Administration’s cabinet.

The meeting’s purpose was to discuss local and State issues of importance that included, but were not limited to, beach replenishment, Barnegat Bay and tideland resources.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Call on NJ Transit to Hold Hearing in Ocean County on Fare and Service Proposal

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove are calling on NJ Transit to include Ocean County among the areas of the state in which it will hold a public hearing on fare and service proposals.  No hearing has been scheduled in Ocean County, while two hearings have been scheduled in Monmouth County.

Senate Passes 9th District Measure Allowing Cancellation of Diminutive municipal Charges and Fees

Legislation sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors that would expand the power of a municipality to cancel a delinquent charge or fee owed to it, provided that the fee was less than $10, was unanimously approved by the full Senate.  Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove will be introducing the Assembly companion bill at the next quorum of their respective House.

“This is a common-sense proposal that would alleviate unnecessary burdens placed on municipalities that are required to procure these minimal debts which, in most cases, are not worth the time and costs involved,” said Senator Connors.  “In these difficult budgetary times most municipalities, especially those with small workforces, don’t have the resources to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to track down someone for the five dollars they are delinquent in their sewer bill.  Our Delegation is sponsoring this legislation since this issue tends to have a greater impact on smaller municipalities with fewer local employees.”
